Proposed changes at York Housing Association

Our board has agreed to explore the opportunity to join another similar Yorkshire based housing association – Leeds and Yorkshire Housing Association (LYHA). You can find out more about them here: https://www.lyha.co.uk/

Our collective boards are now considering a proposal for YHA and LYHA to have what is called a transfer of engagements. If agreed, the proposal will see both organisations coming together and operating as a new 3,000-home regional subsidiary of Karbon Homes.

Karbon Homes is a housing association like us. It manages almost 30,000 homes across the North of England and is focused on providing as many good quality homes as possible, delivering an excellent customer service and creating strong and sustainable places to live.

The aim of the proposed partnership is to deliver excellent services to customers and to play a key role in shaping places and communities across Yorkshire. The new partnership would create a stronger, more effective organisation, with a continued local approach and understanding of customers in this region.

YHA has been a subsidiary of Karbon since 2017 and has already seen the significant benefits of being part of a larger, supportive group.

Karbon’s support has brought increased investment in YHA’s homes and services and a growth of its geography across the wider Yorkshire area, with more planned growth in future years. The partnership has also resulted in efficiencies and improved value for money along with higher customer satisfaction for YHA customers.

We will shortly be seeking the views of our customers, colleagues and stakeholders on the proposals. This feedback will then shape the final business plan before being presented to each board for approval.

We will continue to keep you updated as this develops and we’ll be writing to you with information on how you can give us your views on the proposals.
