Planned changes to YHA rents

For with many of our newer residents they won’t have had a rent increase whilst living in their current home.

However, from April 1 this year the government has announced that housing associations like YHA can increase social and affordable rents by CPI (consumer price index) +1% each year. After several years with no increases, it’s expected that most housing associations will be applying the full rent increase as from April.

YHA has considered the options very carefully and we’re proposing to apply CPI+1% to the majority of rents. There are some properties where this isn’t possible and their increase will be capped at CPI only.

Said Head of Housing Services Nic Dennison:

“We appreciate that rent and service charge increases are never welcome, however, it does ensure that we can continue to develop our services and build new homes for future generations.
“If you have any concerns about affording your weekly or monthly charge then please contact us as we do have a number of options where we can help, offer advice or support residents after the changes.”
