Getting Involved

GETTING INVOLVED WITH THE SUPPORT SERVICE

York Housing Association's Support Service aim is to enable our customers to maintain their accommodation and improve the quality of their lives. To maintain accommodation we will support customers to maximise income through claiming relevant benefits, deal with debts and budget money effectively.  This could include starting some voluntary or paid work, returning to training, having a healthier lifestyle and getting involved in the local community.

We live in changing times. The support service is committed to continuous improvement and to achieve this we need the help of our customers.

Reviewing your Support

We ask our customers when we review the support we provide at the personal level how we can give a better service. When someone comes to the end of their support programme we send out an exit questionnaire to capture those final thoughts.

House meetings in Supported Accommodation

Our customers who live in supported housing have regular house meetings in which they can get involved.  In these meetings there is a chance to tell us what we are doing well and what we could do better.

Support Service Customer Panels

We have now introduced two support service customer panels, one that meets in York and one in Lincolnshire. These panels meet for one day twice a year to discuss a variety of topics to help us ensure that we are providing a continually improving service. To find out more please click on this link.

Customer Involvement Forum (CIF) for the Lincolnshire BME Services

We recently introduced the CIF for our BME Customers within North East Lincolnshire.  The first CIF was held on 3 November 2010 and customers from Scunthorpe and Grimsby attended.

We have since held Forums on 20 April 2011 at Scunthorpe and 3 May 2011 in Grimsby. Both days were well received by individuals and the sessions were informative and included guest speakers from Shoreline Housing Partnership, Balfour Beatty in conjunction with N E Lincs Council, Humberside Police and North Lincolnshire Trading Standards.

We will continue to hold our CIF on a quarterly basis and anyone from the BME communities can attend, you do not have to be a customer to participate.

Previous notes and feedback from all the CIF's held is available and if you would like a copy or if you would like further information about the CIF and how you can become involved, please call Philip and Agnieszka at our Grimsby Office on 01472 359413.

The Silver LGBT Award

In November 2012 we were successful in achieving the bronze award from the Barnsley LGBT forum. The award shows our commitment to inclusive practice for LGBT communities.

We will be working hard in 2013 to achieve the Silver LGBT award and would welcome any input from our tenants or anyone wishing to contribute to this work.
