Do you supply furniture?
Most of our properties are not furnished. We do have some that are either partially furnished or fully furnished, but these are in our supported and student housing. For anyone wishing to purchase furniture please click the link for details of the York Community Furniture Store.
Can I put up a satellite dish?
It usually depends on the area you live in, and you would have to contact your local authority for advice. Once you have spoken to them and they have given you their approval, please telephone or write in a letter of your proposal addressed to your Housing Officer who will contact you to discuss.
Do I need to insure my home?
As we insure the building, we strongly advise you to take out contents insurance. Unfortunately, we would not be responsible for any damage done to your belongings if you have a leak for example. We have details of low cost insurance for our tenants, and all you need to do is to contact your Housing Officer for further details.
What kind of things can you help me with?
- Settle into a new tenancy and set up gas, electricity and water accounts or apply for a TV licence. Make sure you are registered for council tax and other services.
- Report repairs or deal with other matters regarding your tenancy
- Get to know your local area, where schools, libraries and public transport are
- Claim all the benefits you are entitled to.
- Work out a budget so that you don't get into debt
- Make arrangements with people you owe money to or refer to specialist debt advisors
